From stripes to flowers

More glimpses of what's going on in the studio lately. I'm putting together a few items for the shop soon. If you like them, stay tuned!

Hello!

Oh boy, have I been absent from this space for a while! Not to worry, I've been painting in oil and watercolor and recently completed a project for a local literary magazine called parcel. Their new spring issue will release soon and then I will share some shots of the print I made. For now, how about a look at a new yellow and orange striped card in the works? It has me looking forward to summer...

Interviews

One afternoon I stopped in the middle of working to take a picture of  the bright sun streaming in.  I took a few others too around the studio and am sharing them today at Shari's blog. I am happy to be a guest as part of her new interview series. Thank you Shari! And did you see Natalie Freeman's interview?

Plus a new Sharing the Process interview is up at Poppytalk. Get to know Elizabeth Mayville and hear about her painting process. As I mentioned over there, she has a fresh, sincere, and personal approach to painting which I appreciate.

Shop News : Friend letterpress Print

I just rolled out this Friend print and had a lot of fun setting the type! It really was like a puzzle. These prints are 5 in. x 7 in., and signed and dated by me. Only twenty-five are available in each color. Pick one up here for someone you love!

Shop News : Tiny message Valentines

These two tiny cuties were such fun to print and are now in the Shop and Etsy. The inside of the red card has a little girl and the message "I think you are extra special." Wouldn't these be sweet for kids to exchange? Or grown-ups :)

Type : cupids

Hello to you! I really didn't mean to be away from here for so long but I have been printing some new love themed cards. One of which you can see here. I am having lots of fun working with these pieces of type, including the cupids which were likely used to print cigar advertising. The little girl with her hands resting on her chin makes an appearance on a tiny valentine that will be ready next week.

Have you checked out the new Poppytalk Handmade Market site? Jan and Earl have been working hard to bring lots of new features like gift guides, more images per product, a fresh layout, larger product description area, and so on. And to share some of my PHM favorites, I have started a collection here.

Have a great weekend.

Process : Remnants to new ideas

By the press I keep this box where I tuck test prints, scraps, and strips. While I'm working I look through it and print on a piece again, then put it back. Sometimes an image or combination of images on the remnants strike me, inspiring new ideas.

So, as 2011 draws to a close, I think I may thumb through that old cigar box, looking at what has been printed; with gratefulness for the past and with intent for the new year. Also, it is time to arrange a new inspiration/idea wall.

Happy, Happy New Year to you!
